Parents & Carers Information

We know that family life can be equally rewarding and difficult, and raising children can be challenging at times!

Hampshire and IOW Support for Neurodiverse Families offer a range of skills building programmes to support and inform parents/carers of children and young people aged between 3 – 17 years old.

What type of programme could you attend?

Face to Face - you would attend a weekly session with other parents/carers to explore the session content. This may be in a community venue or a school.

Virtual/online – you will receive weekly e-learning to complete before attending a weekly Zoom session with other parents/carers to explore the session content.

Independent Learning with Workshops - The Cygnet for Autism and The Parent Factor in ADHD skills building programmes also offer the option of independent learning, where you will work through the weekly e-learning at your own pace. You will have an opportunity to attend two workshops with our trained facilitators, that will consolidate your learning and give you the opportunity to speak to other parents/carers in similar circumstances. Throughout the programme you will have a named facilitator that you can call or email to speak through any elements of the programme or specific challenges you may be experiencing.

Some of the benefits for attending a programme or workshop:

  • Meeting and talking to other parents/carers who are in a similar situation
  • Having the chance to reflect on strategies and think how they will work for you, your child and family
  • Feeling that you are not alone in the challenges you may be experiencing
  • Hearing about other support organisations
  • Speaking to trained facilitators about specific challenges

It’s absolutely normal to feel a little nervous about joining groups and as facilitators we will do our best to ensure the experience of attending the group is as positive as possible. If you have any specific needs or support, please let one of the facilitators know prior to starting the group and they will make reasonable adjustments to support you.

We also understand that there are sometimes barriers that can prevent you from attending a programme; if you would like to speak to us to find out more information or have any specific questions that you would like to go through, please give us a call on 01489 799178 or email neurodiversefamilies @barnardos.org.uk
