Summary of Skills Building Workshops & Courses

If parents/carers are registered with a Hampshire or Isle of Wight GP (excluding Portsmouth and Southampton) they can self-refer, or professionals can make a referral on their behalf.

Please note that our administration team will triage your referral and decide which programme to assign parents/carers to based upon the information in the referral form. You cannot refer directly to a specific programme.

Programme Description

3 - 12 years

Family Links Nurturing Programme

10-week evidence-based nurturing programme which aims to support positive family relationships and offers practical support strategies.

Criteria:

  • Behaviour that challenges
  • Waiting for an Autism or ADHD assessment/on the CAMHS pathway
  • Hampshire or IOW GP (excluding Portsmouth and Southampton)

Overview of Programme

12 - 17 years

Talking Teens

5-week evidence-based nurturing programme, which aims to increase parents/carers’ understanding of their children/young people as they experience the teenage years.

Criteria:

  • Behaviour that challenges
  • Waiting for an Autism or ADHD assessment / on the CAMHS pathway
  • Hampshire or IOW GP (excluding Portsmouth and Southampton)

Overview of Programme

5 - 17 years

Cygnet for ASC

9-week evidence-based programme which gives parents and carers an opportunity to develop their understanding of autism and look at practical solutions to support their child.

Criteria:

  • Autism diagnosis
  • Hampshire or IOW GP (excluding Portsmouth and Southampton)

Overview of Programme

3 - 5 years

Right from the Start

Two 2-hour workshops and a toolkit which contains practical tips and checklists to support parents during the earliest years of their child's life.

Criteria:

  • Autism diagnosis or likely to go forward for an assessment or diagnosis at 5 years old.
  • Referrals must be submitted from a Speech and Language therapist, Health or SEN Professional.
  • Hampshire or IOW GP (excluding Portsmouth and Southampton)

5 - 17 years

The Parent Factor in ADHD

8-week course which aims to increase knowledge and understanding of ADHD and gain the skills and confidence to support a child with ADHD.

Criteria:

  • ADHD diagnosis or on the assessment pathway
  • Hampshire or IOW GP (excluding Portsmouth and Southampton)

Overview of Programme

8 - 17 years

Who's in Charge?

9-week programme aimed at parents whose children are being abusive or violent towards them or who appear out of parental control.

Criteria:

  • Experiencing violence and abuse from your child
  • Child has diagnosed or suspected ADHD/Autism
  • Hampshire or IOW GP (excluding Portsmouth and Southampton)
  • We recommend that parents/carers have completed a previous skills-building programme with Barnardo’s before offering this course, but please contact our team to discuss if you are interested in this programme.
